The Illinois Health Maintenance Organization Guaranty Association provides protection for HMO contracts owned by Illinois residents, as authorized by Illinois statute. In the event that an HMO becomes impaired or insolvent, the Association steps in to provide protection to enrollees.
What We Do
The Illinois Health Maintenance Organization Guaranty Association is an association of member organizations that are licensed to provide HMO health care plans in Illinois.
If any of these member organizations are found to be insolvent by a court, the Association provides protection to enrollees and their beneficiaries, subject to certain statutory limits. Solvent member HMOs are assessed by the Association to secure funds to provide this protection.
The protection provided by the Association is based on Illinois law and on the contractual obligations of the insolvent organization to its enrollees at the time of insolvency.
